i think my mojo for blogging is on its way back, spurred by boredom, and i am also getting a bout of positive energy. Summer holidays went zoom in haste, and unlike angie i wasn't so industrious in blogging stuff down and also because my holidays weren't that interesting and I did not bring my camera charger back from adelaide.

Anyway I am now in my 4th week of my last year in Adelaide. I remember I was very eager to finish my degree when I was in my first year, always counting down to the day I would go back for good. I remember how my chinese housemate used to tell me that I would spend my first year pining for home but my last year not wanting it to end. I used to scoff at that idea. But now that the reality hits me that I am leaving Adelaide for good in 10mths time, i think i would miss the weather and the fresh food here. Where in Singapore can you get gourmet cheese and full flavoured fresh mushrooms and sweet carrots and red juicy tomatoes for a small fraction of price I am paying now. Not to mention the dips and the pitas, the lebanese bread, the greek yoghurt. The fruits! mangoes, strawberries and nectarines in summer, apples and avocadoes and oranges (yuck) in winter. Seasonal fruits are always a delight because they come in abundance in season, in tip top condition and are worth next to nothing. and you always get a kick out of it when you suddenly see them appearing in the market after a 9mth hiatus. And now don't get me started on the weather. I know winters can get a wee bit nippy and summer can be a blistering hot 40 degrees, but the days in between are lovely and makes you want to frolick along the streets with a swirly dress or lie on the grass in the park with a good book. And the shopping!!!! i think i am going to bring the whole harbourtown back in my luggage bag. Goodbye to $7 tops and $5 pants.

and also in a place far far away when you are actually very much alone in a big place, you get away from responsibility and expectations and all the stuff that comes along with loved ones. Because with expectations come disappointments and when you are 6000 miles away from people who matter, you have a place to run away from issues and I find that I am more at peace and have some me-time, to sort out bitterness or disillusionment or whatnot in my head, to find the love back. I think people generally excuse you, you get a valid reason to escape because you have a place to escape too. I managed to, after being a brimming barrel of mad at someone who really mattered for the whole summer holidays, to sort things out and to forgive and start baby steps in trusting again. Not too bad for a start, so I guess I just need time.

aww i sure am going to miss this place, which i summarised it to be a place of fresh food, cheap clothes, excellent weather and retreat for issues and healing.

Congrats to you, the reader who managed to read through that whole lot of rambling, or not. I did promise some pictures in dec, I will just post whatever that is in my camera leftover from last year.

the beefshed along hindley st celebrating huiyii's birthday

my porterhouse steak

the whole group

i din know my hair was so long back then, like a lion's mane hoho

had this sinful chocolate platter afterwards. The small cups of chocolates were actually choco shots. But they were really thick good coco and personally i think anyone would die of a hyperglycaemic shock if they drank the whole cup like that.

police in their horses. a sight normally on friday nights.

chiangwei's 21st bday in cocolat

families were picnicking along the victoria square

the ardous kayaking expedition along Katarapko Creek in Loxton, Berri. It was about 38 degrees that day and we had to wear long sleeves to protect us from UV rays and whatnot. I know I was in total unglam camping style. And the shirt we wear on the outside should be a button up and of polyester material. bother!

My cute partnet, Yung, a local viet. The 'vessel' beside her was our transporting mean for the first and the third day.

our barang for 3d2n. everything had to be waterproofed!

teammates trying to fit into their kayaks. the guy wearing the wetsuit with pink stripes was our instructor for the team of 11

the lock. Its meant to contain water on one side of the river and it serves to lower us down to the less rapid part of the river

while we were inside the lock. Water was being taken out within this area so that we can proceed from a water catchment area which was more deep on to the other area which was purely a river

notice the pelicans. My leader says they fish near the lock when it is pushing water out from one area to another because that is when the fish are more exposed and more confused. he says its like a buffet for the birds.

the start of the whole expedition. after which no pics were taken because yours truly who is so unfit that she was paddling for her life.

going through a portage. thats when theres a break in the river and we have to haul all canoes and kayaks over, sometimes having to carry them for a distance.

we pitched tents like this when we are through with the day of paddling.

this was taken on the second day of the trip. v v v tired. and you are right, i did not change clothes. grotty was the flavour of the day. everyone had a compass around their neck supposedly for navigation. But I think i still cannot navigate even if my life depended on it.

but i guess the scenery was worth the trip

the sunset and the mirror image on the murray river was breathtaking

something i saw along the way back to adelaide from loxton. I am still not quite sure what those rolls are, I am guessing they are hay for sheep and cows?!

the spread my dad and mum made for my homecoming.

some random pics left on my camera from september. i can't remember what tickled me that much to spoil the group picture.

that started the whole group laughing, that made this such a happy photo. this people are the people i run to for help when i get into trouble in adelaide :)

my 21st bday poster the adelaide girls made for me

bad photography but ya this is a viet cold roll.
